Saudi family sues invisible genie: Shariah court orders genie to appear

advertisement

A Shariah court in the town of Mahd Al-Dahab has summoned a genie to appear in court in a case where a family has complained about harassment from the supernatural being. The Koran (Qu'ran) mentions genies or jinn.

The family says that the genie is not just mean but tech-savvy. They say that it has been leaving voice messages on mobile phones, stealing mobile phones, and pelting them with stones. The genie wants the family to move away.

"We have to look into this case and verify its truthfulness despite the difficulty of its consideration," said Sheikh Amr Al-Salmi, the head of the local court.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

This is no more ridiculous than the far right saying the Earth is 6,000 years old.

Maybe they should just rub the lamp! Be careful though, Genie - appearing with your belly button showing could get you beheaded!

Free_Spirit1184 - Was that really necessary?

Yes it is. I think all religion is just plain silly, but this one takes the cake. It's a waste of time and bandwidth to post such kneejerk partisan comments.

Denying reality based on ancient beliefs codified in "holy" books, or for any other reason, is not funny to me. Ignorance and obtuseness are more harmful than comical. That's my opinion.

Oh, I think I see your point - Those stupid Arabs! Believing in genies. How ridiculous. We'd never ever believe in anything that stupid. How much more superior we Christians are! And anyone who disagrees and doesn't laugh at that inferior religion is a troll.

Did I get it right this time?

This is what a religion dominated government leads to.

I wouldn't generalize with religion, but this shows what an islamic dominated government leads to.

I don't think Islamic government is the problem. We got those same type of stupid things going on in the US court system.

but our government is not run by religion at all. In fact, all people do is try to get all the religion OUT of the government.
